Tracy Van Nunnery and Ron Metts are two office escapees who manage to retreat into the studio monthly to create cinematically-tinged, organic, electronic music while also staying true to their musical past with covers uniquely interpreted the Second October way. After too many years separated by the entire expanse of the United States living on opposite coasts, they have found themselves within a few hours of one another and reignited their mutual passion for the music that they always meant to create before “life” intervened.
Their last offering, RED SCARF EP began the sordid tale of a somewhat naive protagonist coming home to find his love interest missing. His assumption is that he is the reason, that the fault is his own. But further listening of the lead track “Useless” created all sorts of conundrums in the listener’s mind. “Second Thoughts” could provide some answers to these questions, since it is sung by the sultry femme fatale (aka our featured guest vocalist Kat Gandy) that left him that night. What was she thinking then, and what is she thinking now? The accompanying music will place the listener into the shadowy narrative that seems to be developing. And as always, Second October can’t resist throwing in a cover or two from the bands that influenced them, chosen to complement the original compositions on the album.
